Message from the President

It is hard to believe that my year as President of the CIPS Ottawa Section is coming to an end. Serving in this role has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life. The year has not been without its challenges -- the biggest of which, like other organizations, is having enough volunteers to support our activities. But, as always, we find good people who are willing to make things happen and I cannot overemphasize how much I appreciate the quality and the passion of the people with whom I have interacted.

I would like to thank the outgoing board members: Claude Gelinas, I.S.P. (Past President); Bob Bamford (Patrons); Patrick Spencer (Marketing); Daryl Banke, I.S.P. (I.S.P.); Nina Grimes (Treasurer); Lara Wigmore (Student Program); and, Don Lillico (Partnerships). Clearly, they went above and beyond in supporting our organization, and I truly appreciate all their hard work. I would also like to thank all of the volunteers that helped deliver a great program and the Patrons and sponsors that continue to support our local section. I would also like to thank Michele Lajeunesse who, I’m sure, will do a great job as your incoming President.

A lot has changed, and continues to change in the Ottawa IT community and I believe CIPS is and will continue to be a focal point in bringing the local IT community together. I have realized over the past year that CIPS and our professional I.S.P. designation can and should have a much greater impact on our profession.

In closing, I consider myself privileged to have served as the President of CIPS Ottawa, worked with excellent colleagues, and to have gained this broader perspective on the local IT community. I hope that I have been able to move CIPS Ottawa forward in some way and again I encourage you to take the opportunity to get involved and make a unique contribution to our local section.

Rob Tait
President
CIPS Ottawa
