CIPScene February 2005

Message from the Program Chair - Program Update

Our Student Event, held on January 27 at Carleton University, was a huge success. Hats go off to our Student Program Chair, Lara Wigmore, for coordinating this very educational event. Many thanks also to Jay Payette and Carleton University for covering the cost of the facilities. Please see related article in this edition of CIPScene.

Our February Festivus reception (by invitation only) allows CIPS to thank our Patrons, our Advisory Council, and our Executive for their continued support. The event was held, in partnership with DPI, at the Rideau Club on February 10. Our guests enjoyed catching up with fellow colleagues to the backdrop of the Duo Capriccio playing flute and guitar. It was a lovely evening and a good time was enjoyed by all.

Our Women in Technology (WIT) 2005 event will be held on International Women's Day - March 8. This year the event will be held at Nortel on Moodie Drive with close to 150 grade 9 high school girls from Ottawa area high schools taking part in this annual event. The event is aimed at providing an educational program that focuses on the benefits of a career in Technology (not just IT, but sciences too) for women, thereby increasing the number of high school female students enrolling in math, science and computer science.

On March 17, our evening seminar will focus on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in action. The seminar will explore the technology aspects of RFID including: How it works, Technology Standards, Technology Architectures and Infrastructure to support a deployment, and the Challenges with Interference. Please check our website for details and online registration.

Look for details to follow soon at www.cips.ca/ottawa on our April 21 Breakfast "IT Professionalism Roundtable", as well as our 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, which will be held at The Marshes Golf Club on June 7 (see ad in this edition of CIPScene).

We look forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming event!
