Rejuvenating Our Student Program

CIPS Ottawa is committed to ensuring that students have every opportunity to succeed in the exciting, fast-paced field of IM/IT, and as such we are rejuvenating our Student Program in 2004-2005.

It's no secret that students benefit from exposure to industry leaders: whether it is powerful insight into new trends that may not emerge in the classroom or developing new networks that may be the agent to landing that dream job! The problem of course, is that students are seldom afforded opportunities to connect with industry leaders.

Recognizing that today's information technology / information management students are tomorrow's leaders, one of CIPS Ottawa's 2004-2005 priorities is to deliver quality professional development programs tailored for students. At the core of the student program is an exclusive event in January that will highlight emerging IM/IT industry trends; discuss IM/IT employment opportunities in both the public and private sector; and provide expert advice how students can become more marketable in the face of increasing competition.

In addition, the CIPS Student Program is carrying out an In-School Promotion Campaign, offering local colleges and universities in-house Orientation sessions that can be booked for their IM/IT students. The sessions cover the value of being a CIPS student member, as well as the CIPS exclusive I.S.P. designation.

Through this program, students will be able to keep up to date on the broad trends and current issues of IM/IT; meet fellow students in other areas of specialization; to exchange ideas and stay current on developments in and around town; and network with IM/IT professionals.

A CIPS Ottawa student membership of under $35 will allow students to attend the exclusive student event and CIPS Ottawa evening technical seminars for free, and receive a discounted admission price of $15 for CIPS Ottawa Keynote events.
