Smart Grid Technology and Security: The Emerging Challenges in a Digital Power World
The concept of the "Smart Grid" promises to transform energy use and delivery through the use of digital technology to collect, communicate, and react to data. Such approaches will improve efficiencies, enable market participation, and inform consumers about the impacts of their choices. However, with these new capabilities and opportunities come new threats and liabilities through the digital infrastructure that can threaten to undermine new capabilities as well as fundamental operations. Companies like SAIC are working to enable their clients to deliver the promise of the Smart Grid transformation by taking a long-term perspective to managing cyber-security risk.

In this presentation, Mr. Wepman will provide an overview of the Smart Grid and highlight its new capabilities and technologies. He will also describe the risks associated with moving to this new technology and managing the technology infrastructure. His presentation will touch on the importance of society’s ability to identify and manage those emergent risks as we respond to the demands of this change.
